How do I check who is giving care?
Ask for the name of the health professional who will assess you. Ask for the pharmacy’s name too.
The person
Search the health professional’s name.
Virginia’s free Department of Health Professions licence search covers health professionals and pharmacies.
The agency is often called DHP. Search by name, occupation, or licence number.
The search also lists public notices and written decisions from the health licensing boards. These can describe action against a licence.
Check that the name and role match the person who will assess you.
A record showing no public action against the licence does not measure care quality.
Pause if the licence has expired, is suspended (on hold), or is revoked (taken away). Read any board decision and ask the board to explain current limits on the person’s work.

Search the pharmacy as well.
As of September 2026, a pharmacy outside Virginia must register with Virginia before sending prescription medicine into the state.
Those registrations are searchable under “Non-resident Pharmacy”.
A “Non-resident” pharmacy is based beyond Virginia’s borders.
Ask which pharmacy will actually prepare and send the medicine. Then check that name, rather than just the name on an ad.
